Old Mirror Turns New – Reveal

Time to reveal my first project of the new year- an old dresser mirror. I’m so happy to have a new piece to hang on the wall without spending any extra money! And updating it was pretty easy! Win,win, win! I love 2016 already.

See how I transformed and old dresser mirror into a new, stylish one

In the Beginning…

Before I started, I picked out some really cool inspiration photos that I shared earlier this week. I loved their look but also wanted to stick with using materials I already had. (Had to tighten those purse strings after the holidays!)

How to make a plain mirror magnificent

I searched through my craft’s closet for items I could use to embellish the frame and produce I similar look as the inspiration pictures.

Leaves painted gold make a nice embellishment for mirror frame

I walked out of the the closet with a hand full of artificial fern leaves. Yep, fern leaves were all I could dig up for some sort of embellishment that didn’t look childlike.

Paint what you love

Then I promptly set them aside until I could give them further thought and started painting. I knew I wanted to paint the frame blue, gold or white. I ended up painting it blue…then added gold…then added white. When indecisive shoot for it all.

When it was time to figure out how to work with the leaves I played around with them and played around with some more. Finally, I managed to create a nice simple decorative effect. I painted them gold, hot glued them in the center at the top and bottom (doubled layered at top), then finished by dry brushing them white. I also dry brushed the rest of the frame white, too.

New and free

I’m pretty excited about how it turned out. I’m down-right stoked I didn’t spend one extra penny to do it, too. I still need to add hardware to the back before I can actually hang it but that will happen soon.

What do you think? Have you worked on a DIY home d├ęcor project lately?

Share your thoughts! I love your company!
